I can't believe I rediscovered this story on my computer! The file properties window says it was created in May 2007, meaning I wrote it when I was thirteen. Wow. Normally I try and bury the kind of stuff I wrote when I was that age, but I was just so pleased to have found this that I just had to post it! It's really one of the better things I was writing back in 2007. No truly awful Sues or self-inserts that I can make out yet, at any rate. I remember I worked really hard on this for quite a few weeks, and then for some reason I just stopped. Which is a shame, because I actually think if I'd continued with it over the past few years it would be really good by now. I've forgotten what I had in mind when I started it now though, so I'd probably struggle to continue with it if I wanted to. Anyway, here's the little bit of it I wrote way back when. I hope it's entertaining, despite its many flaws.

Title: On The Tides Of History
Genre: Action/Pseudo-Historical
Rating: PG-13
Summary: In the early twentieth century, a small group of special operatives with arcane knowledge about time and space are trying to hold back the forces which threaten to plunge the world - and the entire universe - into war.
Notes: Ok, I accept that some of the characters are cliched and out of place, the concept behind the story is rather confusing (which I think may be down to the influence of Sandy Pearlman), there are glaring historical and cultural innacuracies which could only possibly be excused by claiming this is set in a parallel universe, and so many other things that are wrong with it. But I don't think it's atrocious beyond redemption. I think there are a lot of good things about it, and I'm quite proud of it as one of my early attempts at writing. I just wish I taken time to develop it more and given it the improvement I think it actually deserves.

*Groan* Some of the dialogue in this is terrible! And there are instances of horribly purple prose. But still, most of the writing is actually better than what I remember most of my efforts at thirteen being. I actually quite like this.

Haha! I have a Mary-Sue, weird rip-offs of the Da Vinci Code and dozens of historical and cultural inaccuracies, but never mind. I quite like seeing how my writing has grown since I wrote this.

I'm sort of wishing I'd written more of this now back when I was into it, because it's actually half decent. Anyway, here's chapter three.

On The Tides Of History - Chapter Two )

Haha, it looks like I'm ripping off The Assassination Bureau Ltd. as well! Well, even if the concept of my writing makes no sense, I've taken many liberties with the historical facts and my characters don't really seem to fit with the setting, at least I know I had good taste in movies at the age of thirteen!

And this is it. This is the last I wrote of this in May 2007. Shame really, because I think if I'd kept working at it by now it would be pretty good. Maybe I'll try and develop this idea more in future.
